Nine Strategies for Everyday Life

How will critical thinking help you in your education, your profession, and personal life? Acquiring your MBA degree will involve critical thinking and I thought an article that focuses on this subject would be beneficial to all of us. The article I am presenting is entitled "Critical Thinking: Nine Strategies for Everyday Life, Part 1" written by Richard Paul and Linda Elder from the National Center for Developmental Education. I will be introducing six stages necessary for development as a critical thinker and if you are interested, the article in part II covers additional nine strategies to help you become a better thinker . Three Key Points: I did find three main points in this article. To begin with, the authors assert that people in general do not achieve their full potential when it comes to thinking. Humans have this tremendous gift of thinking, and it's a shame that most of that capacity lies dormant. In other words, "the lights are on but you're not home" as that pop song Addicted to Love, by Robert Palmer says. It is common knowledge that humans use less than 10% of their brain. Albert Einstein, the father of our modern concept of space and time, used perhaps only a couple of percents more than that.
